In January 2020, I had the amazing opportunity of studying abroad in Ghana, West Africa. Not only was I able to nurture my relationship with West African dance in the motherland, I also got to experience the culture, meet some lifelong friends, and spend my birthday on a whole new continent.
This was more than just a school trip for me. With my mom. being born in Liberia, this was probably the closest I would get to seeing her home any time soon. With that, I absolutely love West African dance. It make me feels so alive and free and like I belong and taking class in Ghana reaffirmed all of that for me. The teachers and my fellow students really bolstered my confidence and made the experience that much more impactful.
